The Houston SaberCats signed Siaosi Mahoni for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 24-year-old lock (25 in January) is 6″8″ and 295 lbs.nnSiaosi played 471 minutes in 10 matches, starting 8, and scoring one try for San Diego Legion in 2021. He then played for the American Raptors and the USA National Team against New Zealand.nnSiaosi played 189 minutes, in all five matches for the Legion in 2020, starting three of them. During the 2019 season, he played 213 minutes in 9 matches, carried 24 times for 117 meters, had 2 tackle breaks, 2 offloads, and made 43 tackles. In 2018 he played 165 minutes in 4 matches, starting 3 of them.nnSiaosi Mahoni is from East Palo Alto, California, and is of Tongan descent. He went to Woodside High School where he played basketball and football, graduating in 2015. He then went to Sacred Heart College.nnSiaosi toured with the USA Rugby Boys High School All-Americans to Argentina in 2013 and to Portugal in 2014 and was a four-time HS All-American. He was also on the Men’s Junior All-Americans that played in the 2014 World Rugby Junior Trophy competition.nnHe played professionally for the San Diego Breakers in 2016. He played club rugby with the EPA Razorbacks and in 2017 with Life West in the 2017 California Cup. He helped the Gladiators win Northern California, Pacific Northwest, and Western Conference Championship titles. Then it was off to France to join Narbonne in the France ProD2 League.nnSiaosi played with the USA Rugby Selects in the Americas Pacific Challenge in 2016 and for the Eagles in the Americas Rugby Championship in 2017. He debuted against Canada on February 18 in Vancouver and played against Chile in Santiago the following week. Since then, he has been capped 5 times, starting once. His last test was on October 23, 2021, against New Zealand All Blacks.
